高級語言，PLC編程也可以使用高級語言，如BASIC、C語言等。可以在DOS，也可在WINDOWS平臺上運行。關鍵在于要把用高級語言編寫的程序轉換成助記符語言，或直接轉換成PLC所能識別的機器語言。從根本上講，只要能實現這個轉換的，什么高級語言都可以。而編寫這個轉換的軟件工作量很大，當然應由有關廠家開發與提供。當前不少PLC廠家已有提供。如GE－FANAC的PLC就提供有可用C語言編程的軟件。
再前進一步，從理論上講使用自然語言編程也是*可能的。只是要下力氣去開發，以及市場有這個需要。
